Eight missing fishermen found,

Sri Lanka Navy and Air
Force which launched separate operations to find missing fishermen has rescued six of them, while a merchant ship has rescued another two.

The rescue operation has been launched following a number of fishermen engaged in fishing in the Southern seas has gone missing during last night, as the sea has got rough owing to heavy wind and thunder showers experienced in the Island’s coastal areas.
Media spokesman of the Sri Lanka Navy Kosala Waranakulasuriya told News360.lk that the Navy has dispatched three ships for the rescue operation.
Sri Lanka Air Force has deployed two Bell – 412 to help rescue the missing fishermen.
Air Force media spokesman, Commodore Andrew Wijesuriya said the Bell – 412 operates in sea areas where the SLN cannot access owing to bad weather conditions.
The rescue mission is carried out in sea areas such as Dehiwala, Beruwala and Balapitiya to find the missing fishermen.
Meanwhile, the Met Department in a warning issued this morning at 5.00 says during the next 24 hours sea area around the island will be rough.
It also says, the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo and Galle as well as the sea areas off the coast extending from Jaffna to Trincomaleewill be very rough at times.
“Therefore Naval and fishing communities are kindly requested to refrain their activities in above sea areas”, it added in its warning issued at 5 am today, which will be applicable for 24 hours from that time on.
